Business Cards are a cheap and efficient marketing tool that all firm people should learn to use effectively.

On most occasions they are the second impression a someone will have of you or your firm - remember the first is you!

Your firm card will tell the world how you see your business.

Your hot expectation is not going to be impressed with a flimsy plain firm card, especially one that has 'micro-perforations' colse to the edges. Put simply, this sends the message: Unprofessional, no concentration to detail.

Try not to use firm cards paid for by advertising the firm that gave them to you for free on the back; you want to build a association with your contacts that doesn't involve some other firm squeezing in and detracting from your impact.

There is nothing wrong with free firm cards per se, but they can dilute your message and may send the wrong message to clients - especially about your levels of investment.

Pay the extra and buy all the space on the card for yourself and your message.

10 good things to have on your firm Card:

Your Name: Not every firm card has to have the name of an individual, but it is a personal touch. In large companies it is helpful to know with whom you are connecting. Your name is ordinarily the largest element on the card. It is not essential to comprise your educational qualifications on your card, it is a matter of personal choice.

Company Name: A firm card almost all the time has a firm name on it. This should be the companies trading name or the name by which it is generally known. Sometimes a firm with a well known logo or brand identity might not have a leading text name, but it should all the time be there.

Address: Sometimes a firm may have two addresses. One could be a firm premises and the other a registered office or your home address. If you are a web based firm it is not all the time essential to comprise an address. (If you don't like visitors calling to your home address leave it off.)

Phone Number(s): ordinarily Voice, Fax and Mobile, although in today's shop place the use of a fax motor is dying out fast. Don't forget your Area Code, and your prolongation if you have one. Tag Line or Description: A tagline or a brief description can be beneficial when the firm name is a little vague, or doesn't spin to what the firm does. Taglines can also give benefits and features.

Logo: A logo used consistently on firm cards and other printed or electronic materials helps to produce a company's identity. Small companies without a logo could use a generic illustration or graphic.

Services or Products: Use the back of your firm card to promote your products or services. Don't use a long list but highlight the main areas of your expertise.

Do:

Have your cards printed on capability card

Have your cards professionally designed

Keep them updated

Have your logo and all your feel data on them

Hand cards out in any place you go

Keep cards in your car, briefcase, laptop, wallet & suits

Don't:

Print your cards on your office computer

Get the cheapest or 'Free' cards from the printer

Put your photo on (Unless you are a expert model)

Use a small type size

Business Cards are very personal and it needs to grab the concentration of the recipient, while at the same time giving out the data that you want to tell the world.

Your firm Card has to reflect you and your brand and it has to work for you. When wrong it will end up in someone's desk draw and then at last in the wastepaper basket. Get it right and it can be the key to many firm opportunities.
